Uses of the aux cable

Electronic gadgets keep innovating and everybody seems to follow this trend. Gadgets come and go and an avid enthusiast of this technology will be spending much to cope with the latest model. Save more money, do not discard those gadgets. You can connect those entertainment devices altogether to come up with a home theater – just through the use of an aux cable.

If you have a television (which you certainly have!), a DVD player and some stereos, you can already build your own home theater. This home entertainment system can be made possible through the simple auxiliary cable.

Through this connector, you can connect any mp3 device or a CD player to any stereo equipment, provided these devices are aux-supported. This will enable you to play your favorite sounds and music on any available device. The pre-requisite is for aux support. This will not give you any problem since many electronic devices had been equipped with this feature – built-in aux port.

And iPod, iPad and IPhone – these are the fad today. Thanks to Apple Inc. for designing, developing and manufacturing these gadgets. The aux cable is the simplest solution to connect these three to the car stereo or to any audio equipment. Not only is it the simplest, it also is the cheapest. How much does an aux cable cost? Depending on the model and quality, these cables can be less than $10 or if you buy a better quality from Radio shack, it can be over $10.

Are you going to buy it or …would you like to make your own? For the latter choice, here is a simple “how to’.

How to make an aux cable

Find 2 sets of old earphones, remove the earbud speakers. Strip the plastic covering of the wires. This will expose the multi-colored leads. Do the same for both earphones. Connect the wires – positive to positive and negative to negative. You will be guided by the colors of the wire, so connect the same colors. Next take the uncolored copper wires – plain to plain. Twist or solder to secure the connections.  With an electrical tape, seal the connections. Now you are ready to connect your MP3 or CD player to an audio system such as car stereo or home theater. Be sure all devices have aux input jacks.

Aux cables or auxiliary cables are simple wires that have proven their versatility for entertainment equipments. Although very functional, these are very affordable and available from electronic shops. For a DIY person, this can easily be made at no cost.
